What to look for
Arriving early to the Arts Centre departure will mean that you can relax in the beautiful surroundings here. Visit the free music museum inside the Arts Centre; wander through the beautiful parklands; enjoy a coffee at the Protagonist Cafe; or simply watch the world go by.
- Your Guide and Tour Bus will generally arrive about 5-10 minutes prior to your departure time.
- They will be in (most times) a white LOCAL WAY TOURS or TOUR LOCAL sign-written bus. Depending on how many people we joining us will depend on the size – this will generally be between a 10 and 25 seat bus
- They will park along St Kilda Road – doing their best to park right outside the Protagonist Cafe (entry to the Arts Centre)

- Walking: If you’re staying at a central Melbourne hotel, the Arts Centre is within a 10–15 minute walk from popular areas like Federation Square, Flinders Lane, and Southbank.
- By Tram: The Arts Centre is well-served by multiple trams. Look for trams that stop at the Arts Centre/St Kilda Road tram stop (Stop 14), serviced by routes 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67, and 72. This stop is just steps from our meeting point.
- By Train: Flinders Street Station, one of Melbourne’s main train stations, is only a 5-minute walk away. Once you exit, cross St Kilda Road, and you’ll see the Arts Centre’s spire guiding you to our location.
- By Taxi or Uber: Simply direct your driver to the Melbourne Arts Centre on St Kilda Road. There’s a designated drop-off point right in front, so you can step out safely and comfortably before joining the tour.

Walking
If you’re staying at a central Melbourne hotel, the Arts Centre is within a 5–15 minute walk from popular areas like Federation Square, Flinders Lane, and Southbank.
You’ll enjoy a scenic route along Swanston Street, passing key sights like Federation Square and Flinders Street Station. This short walk also crosses the iconic Princes Bridge, offering views of the Yarra River, before reaching the Arts Centre’s distinctive spire on St Kilda Road. Walking not only gives you a chance to take in some of Melbourne’s vibrant cityscape but also ensures a relaxed arrival at the pickup point.
Melbourne is designed largely for pedestrians – and day or night, it is a beautiful, safe and lively city to navigate on foot.
Tram
Reaching the Melbourne Arts Centre by tram is simple and convenient, with the Arts Centre/St Kilda Road tram stop (Stop 14) located just steps from our pickup point. This stop is served by several tram routes, including 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67, and 72, providing extensive coverage from across Melbourne’s CBD and surrounding neighbourhoods. Trams arrive frequently, and this central location means you won’t need to navigate crowded streets or intersections before the tour. For visitors unfamiliar with Melbourne’s tram system, simply look for the spire of the Arts Centre as a guide—it’s easily visible from the tram stop, making it a straightforward and comfortable option for arriving right at the pickup location.
The Arts Centre stop is locate just south of Swanston St – which is the busiest tram road in Melbourne. Its one stop further South than Flinders St/Federation Square – making it extremely easy to access by a range of trams.
For international and interstate visitors, Melbourne’s tram network is an easy, efficient way to explore the city. Trams are Melbourne’s most popular mode of transport, with services frequently running through the CBD and beyond. To ride the trams outside of the free tram zone, you’ll need a Myki card—a reusable travel card that can be purchased and topped up at many locations, including convenience stores and major train stations. In the city’s Free Tram Zone, which includes much of the central business district, you can hop on and off trams at no cost. This is perfect for short trips within the city centre, but be aware that once you leave the Free Tram Zone, a valid Myki card is required.

Melbourne’s train network is a reliable and straightforward option for exploring the city and its outer suburbs. Trains operate from five central “City Loop” stations, with Flinders Street Station—Melbourne’s oldest and most iconic station—being the closest to our pickup point at the Arts Centre. To travel by train, you’ll need a Myki card, which can be purchased at train stations, convenience stores, or online. Tapping on and off with your Myki at each station ensures your fare is covered, and it’s a convenient way to move around Melbourne. Trains on most lines run frequently, especially during peak hours, and connect with other transport modes like trams and buses. If you’re staying in areas beyond the city centre, the train network offers a quick, comfortable way to reach central Melbourne, where you can enjoy a short walk to our tour pickup location.
